Burning Man Pictures that will Take your Breath Away

The Burning Man festival is held in Black Rock City, a magical place located in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, about 100 miles north of Reno. However, the city only exists when Burning Man members from all over the world come together and create it! It’s an event held at the end of every summer, where people come together and burn wooden sculptures.

Although that may sound strange, some of the most beautiful and memorizing art has been featured there. There are huge creative sculptures made by a variety of talented artists. At the end of the event, all of the art gets burnt to the ground. The fire and neon lights can create some stunning photos!

Here are some of the most incredible pictures ever taken at Burning Man.

The Cool Kids Bring Bikes

Members of Burning Man are encouraged to express themselves. This is usually done through the clothes that people create specifically for the festival. However, some people take their creativity one step farther and decorate their bikes. Plenty of people carpool or even hitchhike to get to Burning Man, but the most ideal method is to ride a bike. Not only will it take you to the event, but you can get around the camps while you’re there. People will put in such an effort decorating their bikes with beautiful feathers and paint.

Wow! This sculpture is literally a work of art! Imagine the time and energy that went into this! The wooden couple looks like a wonderful masterpiece. They look so romantic and everyone at Burning Man can see them because of their massive size!

A Summer Tradition for Friends

In 1986, Larry Harvey built a 9-foot sculpture of a man-made from wood. At the end of the summer, he decided to burn it on a beach in San Francisco. It began as a ritual for a few friends until more people wanted to participate. Due to the success, Harvey continued to do this every year, only each year he made the sculpture bigger. In 1987, the sculpture of the man was 15 feet tall, and in 1989 it was close to 40 feet tall!

This huge radio is one of the pieces of artwork built for burning man. It fits the Burning Man theme perfectly with it’s size, bright colors and neon lights! This is the style that surrounds Burning Man.

The Location

Because Harvey didn’t have a permit, in 1990 he was stopped by the police from burning his sculpture. During this time, Kevin Evans and John Law were planning a trip to the Black Rock Desert, as part of a group called the Cacophony society. Since Harvey wanted to continue his tradition, he decided to go to the desert to burn it. The Cacophony Society was of course welcomed and helped Harvey make the Burning Man even more magical.

This picture really shows you the magic behind Burning Man. The fact that many strangers come together in a desert to celebrate art is beautiful! Capturing the number of people that attend really shows how important this event is for some people.

Lights and Love

Neon lights were added to the burning man in 1991 because John Law knew how to make them. Although the lights made it easier to spot, members of society began getting worried that people might get lost in the desert, which can be very dangerous. One member, Michael Mikel, also goes by “Danger Ranger,” started a group and called Black Rock Rangers. The purpose was to keep everyone safe and break up any fights or conflicts.

These sculptures are really beautiful actually. The shining colors and happy faces are just what Burning Man is all about! The foggy evening-looking sky looks so relaxing! Considering everything will be on fire soon, this looks like the calm before the storm…

Growing Popularity

In 1991, Harvey finally got a permit to hold the festival. That year 250 people were at the event but, it was getting bigger and bigger every year. By 1995, approximately 4,000 people were there and shot up to 10,000 by 1997. In the year 2000, 25,000 people attended and, by 2010, over 50,000 people showed up. Due to the popularity of the festival and the number of attendees, it is sometimes called Big Rock City.

This piece of art is very impressive. The benches under the table are a convenient setting space combined into the sculpture. If I didn’t know this was Burning Man I would assume it’s part of that beach! Look at the beautiful clouds in the background!

Their Own Language

Burning man is more than just an event people show up to. The burners have to participate as well. Regular burners have their own dictionary of words from A-Z. For example, they call the land, “The Playa” which is the Spanish word for beach. Newcomers are encouraged to learn the language and participate. After all, a city filled with over 70,000 people can only be maintained with the collective efforts of everyone there.

This is some really trippy art! it looks like some kind of funhouse. All the colors and openness make this a wonderful place to hang out during Burning Man. You can probably get a nice view from up there. I love the colors and the brightness looks amazing in the dark!

Hugs and Virgins

There is a little ritual done for first-time burners. The newbies are referred to as ‘virgins.’ After entering, the virgins have to roll in the sand while shouting “I’m not a virgin anymore” three times. Once you do this ritual, you are free to join the magical world of Burning Man. When you meet a new burner, you greet them with a hug. There is also a camp called ‘Hug Deli’ which trades all different kinds of hugs.

If you have ever been to Burning Man, there is a pretty big chance you have seen numerous rainbows! It’s a common theme when you are promoting love and happiness! Look at this incredible walkway sculpture! If you want to see what’s at the end of the rainbow, you might find out at Burning Man.

Trucks and Pipes

This sculpture is very interesting. You may have to look twice to understand what is happening. Doesn’t it look like two trucks connected by pipes? All I really know is that it’s super creative! You can see how big it is because of the people around them. I also love how people are just chilling up there. I mean, the view must be amazing but look how high up that girl is! Hopefully, she won’t fall off.

Be careful while playing in the hot springs. When I say be careful, I mean stay out of them! Unless you want to die. These springs are way too hot! One Burner even said that they watched a dog get boiled alive in 1994 in one of the springs!

Sharing is Caring

Ice coffee at the center camp is the only thing you can buy at Burning Man. However, people there like to share! There are camps where you can trade or share anything, including drinks, blankets, food, and drugs. The festival relies on the communal effort to share and trade with one another. Members are usually more than happy to do so. There is even a camp dedicated to sharing hugs!

Sculpted man with a heart-shaped hole
Source: Pinterest

This wooden sculpture is a very classic Burning Man statue. What makes it unique, however, is the heart hole! You can see the happy Burners right through him! Imagine how cool it will look at night! When you cant see lights and fire shining through the heart!

A Place to Mourn

There is a temple built in the desert for people to mourn their loved ones. The burners who are grieving someone they lost, are encouraged to write letters and leave them at the temple. The temple is eventually burned at the end of the festival. During the ritual, ceremony, is when some people even spread the ashes of people they loved who passed away.

This Burning Man sculpture is depicting everything I would be doing if I were at the beach. Tanning. Considering this sculpture looks like it’s made out of metal, it is probably burning hot! Take a closer look at the rocks on her stomach. Did you notice that they are actually faces! It looks like that sculpture is having babies!

Burning Man Goes to Hollywood

Burning Man was made popular because of its uniqueness before becoming part of today’s pop culture. There is an episode of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ focusing on Burning Man. Other popular shows also mention Burning Man, such as Simpsons and South Park. In addition video games refer to the Burning man as well. Check out ‘Watch Dog 2’ where the characters are shown attending the event.

This Burning Man picture looks very mysterious! The brick earth face with that telescope light! I have no idea what is exactly, but it feels very Illuminati-like, and I for one, am loving it! The only disappointing part is that this incredible sculpture is that it’s about to go up flames before burning to the ground!

Creating the Peace

Facebook’s Dustin Moskovitz proudly followed the rules of Burning Man, including the first principle of “Radical inclusion.” When the Winklevoss Twins showed up, Moskovitz included them without any discrimination. Thanks to the 2010 movie Social Network, everyone knows the Winklevoss twins are enemies with Facebook. Fortunately, they all decided to follow the rules of inclusion and settle the dust.

The purpose of the rule was to avoid conflict, and it seems to have worked! This is a very interesting sculpture. This guy almost looks like Santa Clause, only skinnier. I guess he is attached to some sort of tractor? He is also kneeling towards with a ripped-on lamp on top. I’m sure this has some kind of deeper meaning.

No Money, No Problem

Unlike most festivals, there is no booked entertainment for Burning man. Instead, the burners perform as a form of trading. Although there is no money exchanged, people can still participate in numerous activities such as massages, zip-lining, and even wine tasting, given as gifts by some of the burners. Since it’s such a friendly atmosphere, people stroll freely around the camps on foot or on bicycles to dance, cook, make art, drink, and party with one another.

Drugs are illegal and are “not allowed” to be brought into the event. However, multiple sources reported people giving out drugs like its candy. This sculpture is enormous! Just this statue’s feet are the size of all the people around it!

Burning Ride

This looks like a ride that doesn’t exist. This incredible sculpture looks just like a ride, only passengers aren’t buckled up and safe. They are hanging on for dear life! It can be really dangerous if someone falls. Don’t worry. Those aren’t real people, just sculptures! Luckily, no one is in any real danger. However, I would love to go on a safer version of this ride. Maybe something with a seat belt!

Do you have any of those dramatic friends? The ones that literally stress you out. Yea, don’t bring them along. The same way no one wants to hear about your boring societal job; no one wants to deal with your obnoxious friend. Leave all negativity out and come in with only good vibes.

Hook Up Service

2000 volunteers called the ‘camp Hook up Service’ attend the event every year. Each volunteer packs a little Burning Man survival kit, filled with Glow toys, Condoms, band-aids, Gatorade, Advil, glow sticks, and even bike repair kits! The volunteers make sure every burner is safe and happy. So, if you are missing anything or just want a glow stick, ‘Hook Up’ volunteers are ready to help!

I love everything about this picture! This girl has the perfect outfit! I love the white and the holes in her sweater. My favorite part is whatever is in her hair. That Indian-style headband/hat is just what I need! it’s also a cool sculpture of a horse! the pose is perfect!

Not Just Hippies

This isn’t just some festival that hippies show up to. Some of the richest burners show up to the event in RVs and create their own camps. These luxury camps include bodyguards, and some of the best chefs show up to cook for them. In addition, they have people build beds for them and bring the air conditioning… to the desert! However, people in the luxury camps usually do their own thing and stay away from other members.

Look how cool this Burning Man art is! The airplane looks so real and ready to go! Can you believe this was built specifically for this event! The lights make it look so pretty and even more realistic! You can even climb it and hang out on top.

Vacation Spot for the Rich and famous

Burning Man began as an end of summer bonfire tradition for a group of friends, with only 12 attendees the first year. However, it has now become a vacation spot for famous names such as Eric Schmidt from Google and Mark Zuckerberg from Facebook.

Other celebrities and entertainers have attended burning man. P. Ditty and Major Lazer have been seen there and even performed for fellow burners. Reportedly, Elon Musk attended the event on more than just one occasion and even called it ‘Silicon Valley.’  This picture looks heavenly. Literally! This angel wing sculpture looks incredible with that clouded sky! It just blends in so perfectly! The shadow also looks like Burning Man was graced by angels!

Destroying the Spirit

Many people have complained about these luxury camps claiming that they are ruining the spirit of the festival. While everyone is trading and exploring, these members come in with premade food and air conditioning! Larry Harvey said he wouldn’t discriminate based on the amount of money people bring or have. However, he did admit that the luxury campers weren’t following their rules because they are usually isolated from everyone else.

This Burning Man picture is like nothing I have seen before. Most of the art created for Burning Man is filled with lights and colors. This one looks a little but more deserted. The isolated style is a nice contrast to the number of people who actually attend the event.

Burning Man Ice Cream

A local Ice-creamery, ‘Icecycle Creamery’ in Reno, serves Burning Man-inspired treats during the month of August! Don’t forget to stop by while you’re in town! Some of these delicious items are Strawberry margarita sorbet, Black Rock Rum raisin, and the Burning Breakfast, which is some Bourbon and bacon. Yum!

Woman in front of a sculpted castle
Source: Instagram

This picture is how I would imagine a Burning Man fairy-tale. That incredible sculpture in the background looks like a castle! Well, sort of. It’s just so big! Although I don’t see a prince, I’m pretty sure that everyone at Burning Man thinks they are in some kind of storybook depending on how much drugs they do. I love the dusty foggy background. It adds the rustic style to the bright and colorful theme!

Fire and Lights

This picture really captures how big Burning Man is. I mean, just take a look at how many people are there. And these are just the ones that didn’t get cut out of the photo. Everyone is holding glow sticks like they are at a concert or something. Burning Man is a really big deal! I have never seen so many people on a beach, but who wouldn’t want to see all this cool artwork?

Here is something you probably didn’t know about Burning Man. You can kill as many rabbits as you want! That’s right you can murder and innocent rabbit minding his own business, in his natural habitat! According to the Burning Man survival guide, “There are Jackrabbits in the area. It’s not worth jeopardizing your safety to swerve in an attempt to avoid them.”

Franchising

If someone can’t make it to Nevada on the exact dates of Burning Man, it’s okay! Burning Man has inspired many groups around the world to hold similar events with the spirit of Burning Man. Some of these events are held in New Zealand, Australia, New England, Kiwiburn, and even China!

Sculpture of an owl on the beach
Source: Pinterest

Although very similar, not all of these events are affiliated directly with the official Burning Man Regional Network. Still, they are held with the same spirit, and the burners attending should follow the same rules as the original event. This owl shows that there is no limit to the creativity you can bring to Burning Man. This Popsicle stick owl looks like it’s really made from Popsicle sticks! Until you look at the sticks, and they are the size of a person!

Burning Statue

If I didn’t know this was Burning Man, that statue would probably scare me. It’s just so big. I feel like he is going to multiply. I can picture an apocalypse with an army of these guys taking over. Luckily, there is only one, and he isn’t alive. If anything that poor old statue will be burnt down soon. However, I love how tall he is. The lights look gorgeous that high in the sky.

Another unspoken rule at Burning Man is that you don’t bring your career with you! The whole point of Burning Man is to be at a communal event where you can relax and enjoy yourself. You are isolating yourself from society, so you can just be free!

Radical Inclusion

“Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.” This rule basically means anybody can show up to this event. You’re race, sexual orientation, and culture don’t matter at burning man! Everyone is welcome! Of course, they have to abide by these few simple rules, but Burning Man doesn’t discriminate.

Two girls dressed in costumes on their bikes
Source: Instagram

These two girls look like they came prepared for Burning Man! They clearly put a lot of work into those costumes, and it is definitely paying off! I love all the shiny sparkles and headbands! My favorite part, however, is definitely those amazing sunglasses… even though they look like goggles! If I ever go to Burning Man, I’m bringing a pair o those.

Gifting

Since no cash exchanges should be made at the event, gifting is encouraged. There is a trading system where people will do something and in exchange, receive a ‘gift’ of the same value. Originally, at the very start of Burning Man, Gifting was when burners exchanged favors. Although that is still true, these gifts have become more physical throughout the years. Trading is one way, but there are plenty of burners giving out gifts and don’t expect anything in return!

A sculpted balloon hut with stairs
Source: Instagram

This sculpture is one of my favorites! It looks like a mixture of a hot air balloon and the house from Up. im not sure if I love this picture so much because of the balloons on top, or because of how beautiful the coloring looks with the clear skies.

Decommodification

In order to keep the gifting tradition alive, there is nothing for sale and burning man. Other than buying coffee or lemonade at the center camp, you can buy a wrist band at the gate for the purpose of getting back in if you decide to leave. Once you arrive at the event, you rely on sharing and trading for anything. Luckily, the members are very communal and are happy to share anything from art to massages.

Two beautiful and colorful guitars
Source: Instagram

These guitars look so old school, and the coloring is so classic! I absolutely love this picture especially the additional sculptures in the background. It’s just a little disappointing because I know that it will be burnt and destroyed soon!

Radical Self-Expression

Every Burning Man participant is encouraged to express themselves and their creativity in many different ways. One of the most popular ways is through art and projects and make unique personalized gifts. Wearing clothing to the event is completely optional. Most members express their imagination through their outfits; however, nudity at burning man is not uncommon. Some people feel more creative and free without their clothes on.

A man riding his bike towards a sculpted horse
Source: Instagram

We already saw this horse, but it looks even cooler from this angle. Just the way this horse was built is impressive. How did the artist do such a good job, making it look like a real horse is stopping short! Doesn’t it look like someone snapped this picture while the horse is running?

Discrimination

Although there is a Radical Inclusion law in place, Burning man has been criticized for having a diversity problem. A 2014 survey showed 87% of people who attend the event are white. 6% identify as Hispanic/Latino and 6% Asian. This leaves 1% of the attendees as black. Lee Harvey brushed off these statistics.

Woman surrounded by white and red sticks
Source: Instagram

He stated, “I don’t think black folks like to camp as much as white folks… We’re not going to set racial quotas… This has never been imagined by us as a utopian society”. This picture is just so artistic! One of the best parts of Burning Man is that artists get to show off their creativity and that is clearly the case with this one! The colors together were a good choice!

Laws of the Land

There are thousands of people attending the event, which can cause chaos. In 2004, Lee Harvey came up with 10 rules that everyone in the city needs to follow. These rules are: radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, and radical self-expression, and communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy.

BURNING MAN -- 08/31/05 -- BLACK ROCK DESERT, NV -- Stilt walkers pose for a group shot after sunset
Photo by Jim Rankin/Toronto Star via Getty Images

This picture can basically sum most of us up. Most people go through life confused, and this guy holding a question mark is a sculpture most of us can relate to. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who feels like I’m walking around confused all the time! The sunset hitting the question mark is bringing out the gorgeous colors depicted in the artwork.

Civic Responsibility

Since things are given out very freely at Burning Man, sometimes people create events. This can include numerous fun activities such as live performances and even wine tasting! These events are very communal and encouraged at Burning Man. However, due to local, state, and federal laws, members must assume responsibility while conducting an event.

Man standing on sculpted tilts
Source: Instagram

Similar to the angel wings, this sculpture also depicts the heavenly feel of Burning Man. I’m honestly not sure how safe it is to be on top of there. It’s really high, just look how tiny all the people on the ground look! Still, the idea is super creative! Standing up there with the sky in the background makes this guy look like some kind of Greek God.

Leaving No Trace

This just means the before leaving, everyone needs to make an effort to clean up. Get rid of the trash, tents, and whatever else they brought to the festival, ‘leaving no trace’ of the event. The purpose is to leave the place in better shape than it was when they got there. With thousands of burners attending, this is another thing that requires communal effort.

People riding bikes alongside a huge sculpted woman
Source: Pinterest

This picture is a bit confusing. I’m still not sure what exactly is happening here. I do like the Tractor, but the statue looks like a doll that came out of a music box. The contrast is pretty interesting because of how creative the concept is. The sand fogging everything up makes this sight even better!

Rule Not Followed

Most of the stuff gets cleared from the desert, San Francisco residents have stated that the burners throw their trash all around the city after the event is over. Sadly, ‘leave no trace’ is a rule people tend to disregard over the years. An environmental organization named Sierra Club criticized the event for the “Hundreds of thousands” of water bottles that are left in the area.

People standing on huge sculpted feet
Source: Facebook

I don’t know what this is, only that I want one in my room. Well… maybe a smaller one. Based on the feet, this should be a sculpture of a teddy bear or something. However, it has no head! The top half kind of looks like Jelly Fish! Either way, I want to see the view from the top!

Big Foot

Believe it or not, these two girls are average-sized. However, their entire body is the size of this one foot. This is such a massive sculpture. It must have taken a long time and a lot of patience to build. The girls literally need to lift up their heads all the way just to see the whole sculpture.

Huge feet at Burning Man
Source: Mymodernmet

With all the effort that seems to have gone into building this, it’s almost sad that they are going to burn it down. Did you know that in 2007, there was a lot of criticism towards burning man? They called a “Crude Awakening” meaning that the art was wasteful and dangerous. With all the jet fuel and gallons and liquid propane, it makes sense that it’s not very good for the environment.

Immediacy

One of the most important and valued things in Burning Man is the Immediate experience. Members try to overcome obstacles standing in the way of recognizing their own individual selves. Being in nature and creating a society filled with love and acceptance is what Burning Man is about. Contact with the outside world is not necessary or needed. It’s about the experience that can’t ever be replaced.

A few people chilling on a magic carpet
Copyright Scott London. Source: Facebook

There is no one at Burning Man chilling harder than these guys! They are just casually hanging out on the magic carpet… like they do this every day. The best part, is that it’s actually off the ground somehow. It’s things like this that make me want to attend Burning Man! The hooka on there makes this picture even better.

Scoop the Moop and Poop

Moop is another word from the Burning Man language. It stands for “Matter Out of Place.” Volunteers show up before the event to rid the area of Moop. This gives all attendees a clean slate when they arrive. Littering in the area is forbidden. One of the rules for all attendees is ‘Leaving no trace.’ Everyone must drive out their trash out of the area after the event.

This includes your poop, as well. If you don’t use the porta-potties, you can receive a ticket up to $125. I love these kinds of pictures! The dust and smoke give such a rustic feel! It’s also a really cool contrast to all the glitter, bright colors, and bright lights that are customarily seen at Burning Man.

Burning Man Fitness

Members of Burning Man make sure there are plenty of activities in place. These usually include art, music, alcohol, sexual intercourse, and even drugs. However, fitness junkies can attend as well. The event normally hosts, roller skating, pole dancing, meditation classes, and dance parties! You can stay in great shape and even join the marathon!

A man standing next to a sculpted horse
Source: Facebook

This sculpture is so cool! We have already seen some horse sculptures at Burning Man. This is another one where people show their unique creativity. The wires for the hairs on the head and tail are different than anything I have ever seen before. The entire style is so cool with the medal inside. Plus, look how big that thing is! The very tall man under there looks tiny compared to the horse.

Save Water, Shower Together

Since the event primarily takes place at a beach or desert, you’re bound to get dirty while attending Burning Man. Fortunately, they have stations at the festival where everyone can take foam baths together! You have to do your part in sharing. This means you have to wash a dozen other people first. Since Burning Man is about trading, someone will wash you in return.

Personally, I’d rather bathe myself but to each their own. I don’t know if this is an alien or a disco ball! If you look very closely it kind of looks like Pharoh, the leader of Egypt. Minus the wig. This girl looks like she’s enjoying herself. Check out her Burning Man outfit!

Radical Self-Reliance

Since its taken place in the desert or beach, people need to be ready for uncomfortable circumstances.  Participants are required to bring necessities, such as special food and medications. People share what they have, but if you need something specific, you can be certain someone there will have it. In addition, the LLC prohibits some forms of trading, so participants should be prepared with necessary supplies.

I don’t know why, but for some reason, I love seeing just the legs of these Burning Man sculptures. It’s just so insane to me how massive these things are! Real people can barely reach the knees of some of these things! It just shows the effort that goes into this artwork!

Communal Effort

The festival is always trying to keep up the friendly atmosphere and communal spirit. Members of Burning Man are always encouraged to help other burners when in need. Some people may be out of the water, forgot clothes, or even just need a friend. Whenever someone seems unsettled, members often go over and see if there is anything they can do to help.

This picture captures the love shared at burning man! Everyone is holding hands with strangers like they are friends! My favorite part is that sculpture in the background. I really hope that’s supposed to be a UFO with an alien standing on top! If not, it’s Burning Man! It can be whatever I want it to be!

Participation

In addition to sharing and trading, people are encouraged to participate and not just observe. The belief is that change, individually or socially, can only happen with deep and personal participation. This includes welcoming new members, learning the Burning Man lingo, and hopping around different camps meeting other burners. Since the members want to feel loved and included, this rule is usually followed.

This tree looks like The Tree of Life during Christmas. I really don’t know how else to describe it! It looks so peaceful! The signature Burning Man lights shine beautifully! The colors are so unique, and I like how the leaves aren’t just green! The different shades make it look like the season is Autumn!

Changing your Identity

Part of the Burning Man experience is to go in with a new identity. Basically, the burners give each other random temporary names to be used during the event. These names are called “Playa Names.” It’s another communal aspect to the festival, making people feel more connected. To officially be a player name, you can’t choose it yourself. Another member has to come up with it.

Huge teddy bear in a wheelbarrow
Source: Instagram

This is one of my favorite artwork at Burning Man. These teddy bears are just so cute! I love how it’s one big one will the little ones behinds! Having them sit in a wheelbarrow is such a cool concept. Honestly, I just want to take one of the little ones home!

Don’t try and Sneak in

Before entering Burning Man, every single car must be checked. The purpose of checking the cars is really just to ensure that nobody is sneaking in non-ticketholders. We can assume that they don’t confiscate anything and let you keep your drugs. Although drugs are illegal, the cars are bring checked by festival security, not by the police.

Fish-shaped car and sculpted castle

Okay, now this looks like a real castle! It almost looks like Cinderella’s castle at Disney World! The fish car just sitting there adds so much! I can’t get over how big that castle is! Do you think there is a fire breathing dragon up there? This artist is incredible! I’m a little disappointed that they are going to burn it down!

Rumor has it…

It can take artists over a year to create such an elaborate and amazing sculpture. Once it’s finally done, it can be sad for an artist to watch their beautiful artwork go up in flames. However, every artist is still ecstatic to be able to show off their work at the festival. A Burning Man rumor is that the judges award the creators of the best exhibits a kiss or a joint! I personally think they deserve a better price…

Sculpted man on fire
Source: Pinterest

This is a classic depiction of Burning Man. First of all, look at all the people around so you can understand how big that sculpture is! Since Burning down the sculptures is the main point of Burning Man picture was taken during the main event.

Burning Man Photos

Many photographers love attending this festival! With all the gorgeous art and beautiful lights, this is an obviously perfect place to create the most amazing pictures. However, photographers must sign a legal document. In this lengthy contract, they consent to possible censorship of their photos. This only happens in a case where a photographer chooses to publish a picture of illegal activity happening at the event. This is to ensure trust, so members feel safe and comfortable to be free.

This is another beautiful depiction of Burning Man. This is as soon as the burning starts! This picture was taken at the perfect time. Right before the smoke completely covered everything but it still captured the beautiful fire.

Stay Hydrated

Since the festival takes place in the desert, at the end of the summer, weather conditions can get crazy! Usually, it will be extremely hot during the day and really cold at night! With a very strong sun, it’s tremendously important to drink water. However, the sun can quickly turn to rainfall. Make sure to have a change of clothes packed and be ready for anything!

Boat on the sand

This is another breath-taking picture of Burning Man! Look at this boat! Clearly, it’s built perfectly, and people can even hang out in there. What’s more amazing is how the sky looks! It’s almost unbelievable how well the sky and the ocean blend together. Still, the fig isn’t even covering the boat so you can see it clearly.

Playa Foot

As we previously mentioned, members of Burning Man called the place where the event is held ‘Playa.’ The area is ancient and was previously a lakebed. Even though it’s lighter than sand, the land is filled with Alkaline residue. The residue can cause a reaction, much like a chemical burn called ‘Playa foot.’ Be especially careful if you have cracked skin or a cut because the dust may settle and cause an infection.

This picture is also really cool, but it looks like it was taken after all the action happened. You can see all that’s left of those stunning sculptures. You can still see all the smoke and sand all around. It looks like everyone is getting ready to leave.

Clear Sky’s

In 2014, Black Rock Observatory was in built-in Playa. Every year, the people who attend burning man get to gaze at the beautiful Nevada stars from the Black Rock Desert. The observatory has two 21 foot domes and a 20-inch telescope. This allows the astronomy enthusiast at Burning Man to see Saturn, Jupiter’s rings, and even other galaxies!

This picture is Burning Man at it’s finest! (in my opinion at least). This is while all the sculptures are still standing strong. Everyone s just chilling and having fun! Everything looks bright and ready to be shown off! This looks like a lot, but keep in mind; the entire beach is filled with them.  It almost makes me sad knowing that they are going to set everything on fire… intentionally!

Trippin’

For many people, festivals like Burning Man can be a spiritual trip. It helps them connect to themselves and their souls in a special way. This can explain the psychedelic drugs. According to the Black Rock City Census Team, only 24% of burners would identify as atheist. Another 46% of the Burning Man community will call themselves “spiritual but not religious.”

This just means that they don’t follow the rules of their religion but still want to connect to a spiritual part of their mind or the world.  These life-size statues are pretty cute! They are just like all the other Burners there, just completely white. Look at everyone meditating with them and treating them like people. How sweet!

Hugs not Drugs

Contrary to popular belief, not every member of Burning Man does drugs. Of course, people who enjoy partying and drugs are attracted to festivals like this, but there is actually a growing sober community at Burning Man. Two camps are set up specifically for sober living. One is called Anonymous Village, and the other is called Run Free.

Be sure to check out these camps if you’re dedicated to living a sober life, or if you just want to stay away from drugs. This is absolutely incredible. If Disney world didn’t exist, this just might be the happiest place on earth. All the lights, colors, bikes, and people make it look like there is a carnival at the beach!

No Drugs Policy

Surprising to most people, Burning Man has a no drug policy that is formally written. Even if a drug is legal in Nevada, it’s not allowed on the premises if it’s illegal by federal law. Officers regularly show up to the festival to check it out. However, numerous people who attended the event revealed that drugs are handed out there like candy.

Obviously this rule isn’t enforced at all. Although you can go sober, most people at Burning Man are doing plenty of drugs! This is a really cool sculpture! These are the biggest pair of glasses I have ever seen in my life. The blue and green make the eyes really pop. It’s also kind of creepy if you really think about it.

Burning Ballerina

This Burning Man sculpture of a ballerina is incredibly cool. The tractor that she’s attached to makes this art even more unique. She’s also incredibly large! Look at all the tiny people around her! Yea, she’s bigger than she looks! I like that her feet are slightly off the ground.

This picture was taken at the perfect time. The light pink dress brings out the gorgeous pink sunset behind her. Even the colors in the sky look amazing! Besides the incredible blues and purples, the pink matches the ballerina’s dress! This would be a pretty cool toy. I would want one if it was a little bit smaller. I just need it to fit in my room!

Shining Through

This is one of the coolest pictures ever. This sculpture is so big and so Bright! Not only is she posing perfectly, but the holes add so much to the Burning Man experience. Because of all the fire combined with the sunset, the lights beautifully shine right through the sculpture.

Making it even more beautiful, look at the ocean! With all those colors mixed together, It’s just so mesmerizing. Did you know the first Burning Man sculpture stood at only 8 feet tall? Throughout the years they got bigger, but the tallest man ever at Burning Man was 105 feet tall. He was built in 2014… and then, of course, got burnt down. I wonder how much higher these sculptures will get!

Over the Rainbow

This is a cool statue of a rocking horse, only cooler! Instead of a boring old horse, it’s a glittery unicorn with a rainbow tail. All the colors and sparkles are perfect for Burning Man! The girl riding the unicorn seems to be having a blast with that pose! Rainbows and unicorns represent imagination and creation, and you can really see that come out in this sculpture.

Did you know that the land where Burning Man takes place isn’t actually sand? It’s actually just leftovers of an anchient lakebed. The “sand” on the ground is just alkaline residue. It’s a lighter color than regular sand, it almost looks white. The sand gets all over the place! Probably worse than regular sand.

Jungle Gym Magic

This sculpture almost looks like a jungle gym! It’s the perfect way to bring your childhood into Burning Man, minus the drugs. With all the beautiful colors and bicycles, this looks like a child’s dream! The best part about this sculpture is that you can climb it and see all of the Burning Man magic!

Imagine the view from up there! You can also see the fire through the holes in the jungle gym sculpture. Based on all the outfits the burners wear, it’s easy to assume that this event takes place during hot weather. However, since it’s 4,000 feet above sea level, temperatures can drop to 30 degrees! If you’re going to Burning Man, don’t forget your sweater!

Jaws is Friendly

This is such a cool sculpture of a shark! The pink lights in his teeth make him stand out! There are also wheels which means people can ride him around instead of walking everywhere. This is a very creative idea, and I don’t want it to Burn Down! Yes, it’s a shark with its mouth wide open on the beach. However, it isn’t scary at all and brings more life to Burning Man.

Did you know Katy Perry attends Burning Man? That’s right. The pop star loves to go to Burning Man and even posted a video on Instagram. She tried to ride a Segway into a dust storm. It didn’t go as planned but that’s the fun of Burning Man.

Burning Tentacles

This incredible picture was also taken at Burning Man. This is a sculpture of some kind of car with an alien-looking octopus on top of it.  The cool part is that the fire is coming out of the octopus’ tentacles. Unfortunately, this entire sculpture will soon be burnt to the ground, starting with the tentacles. Look at all of the detail that went into that car! The fire brings out the midnight blue sky and the dark clouds!

Did you know that there is a group called “Desert Wizards of Mars” who helped get an observatory on the Burning Man location? It is so cool! You can literally see other galaxies, Jupiter’s moon, and Saturn’s rings from the telescopes over there.

Blast off

Rocket ships are such a cool invention that most people don’t get to experience. That’s why this hot pink rocket ship sculpture is a perfect and creative addition to the Burning Man festival. Honestly, I don’t even know if it supposed to be a rocket ship, but it sure does look like one. It looks like it’s about to shoot up into outer space through those beautiful grey clouds. I want a ride!

Burning Man constructs many different types of sculptures leading up the event. A Burning Man Temple is also built every single year. This is because Burning Man wants to encourage mourners to honor their loved ones. They can write them notes or messages and put them in the temle before it burns.

Comin’ Through

I don’t even know where to begin with this! These amazing lights make it look like you are going through a tunnel! However, there is sand on the ground, so you are still technically on the beach. Obviously, it’s not a real tunnel. You can easily slide in and out through each of the circles. Still, you can see how people make a point to walk through it and not around it. This picture reminds me of Space Mountain!

All the Burners who show up at the event almost created their own little family. That’s why, at Burning Man, it is customary  to greet people with a hugs. Don’t try giving people handshakes; at Burning Man, it’s possibly considered rude.

Monster on Fire

This sculpture is some kind of vehicle with an animal or monster on top of it. You can’t really tell because it already started burning. It’s pretty scary because all you can see is the teeth. Look how little everyone looks around this sculpture! It’s such a creative idea, and the artist used so much detail! I wonder if he was disappointed that it got burnt down after all that work.

Did you know that you can actually have your wedding ceremony at Burning Man? Some people dream of planning a beautiful elegant wedding surrounded by family and friends. Other people dream of having their wedding on a desert with strangers. To each their own. Who am I to judge?

Bright Skies

This sculpture was shining very bright at Burning man! The stunning pink and blue lights fir right into the Burning Man theme. It’s a shame it’s about to be burnt down to the ground. Look at how big it is compared to the people around it! Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves hanging out under there! Just looking up at the wonderful stars in the sky.

Did you know people hitchhike to get to the Burning Man festival? Although it’s stereotypically not the safest form of transportation, these carpools can be competitive. If you want a ride, you can advertise on a message board why you would be a fun travel buddy. That way, the drivers pick their own hitchhikers!

Chill Zone

I don’t know about you, but this looks like the perfect beach day for me! I would love to chill on a recliner on the beach rather than be covered in sand! These guys are doing Burning Man, right! What’s more important than these comfy recliners, is the incredible sculpture they are under. The lights and blue colors make it an even cooler chill zone. If I ever go to Burning Man, I’m hanging out with these guys.

There is a Burning Man legend that the judges go around giving kisses to the best artists! Since not everyone is comfortable being kissed by strangers, so it’s been reported they can get a joint instead. Much better prize if you ask me!

Spider Burning

This unique artwork is a great addition to the Burning Man festival. It’s a sculpture of a spider web is such a creative idea. It looks so detailed and realistic; only it’s jumbo-sized! If I went to Burning Man, I would probably want to climb this and hang out with that spider! He looks like he is enjoying himself. I guess he doesn’t know he’s going to burn soon.

Don’t forget to bring water to Burning Man. The desert can get really hot, and it’s important to stay hydrated. Bring at least three gallons with you! Since there are no stores at the event, you won’t have anywhere to buy water. On the bright side, you don’t have to bring alcohol. There will be so much of that there and people giving it out freely.

Lego Man

This is the coolest car I have ever seen! As we know, Burning Man is a huge festival, and walking can get exhausting! That’s why people bring bikes, rollerblades, and other forms of transportation. The cool thing about this car is that it is built out of Lego! The creativity that went into this car is absolutely perfect for the theme of Burning Man. I want a car exactly like this!

You would think that environmentally conscious people that attend Burning Man wouldn’t eat an animal. However, in addition to killing innocent rabbits, everyone there loves bacon! It’s one of the most festival’s most popular snacks! If you have a problem making friends, just bring them some bacon!

Come Through

This stunning tunnel makes you feel like you are about to walk into a magical world! The neon lights and bright colors are such a cool addition to the Burning Man art. It’s so pretty. The circle on top is almost hypnotizing. It’s like when I look at it, it’s telling me to walk through, and that is just from the picture.  Isn’t that the Illuminati eye? I guess it all makes sense now.

Thanks to the “leave no trace” policy, feathers are not allowed at the festival! They can easily get flown away, and they are so annoying to try and pick up. As you can tell from the pictures, this rule isn’t heavily enforced. However, if you do bring feathers, Burning Man veterans will not be happy.

Cinderella Man

This literally makes me feel like Cinderella. I’m not really sure why. Maybe it’s the light blue or the carriage look this sculpture has. Either way, I can fall asleep on that bed any day! This is a room built for a princess. The lights and detail are amazing. There are even two girls hanging out on there. There is even a table! I would never leave… until they burn it down.

The main part of Burning Man is Burning ant art you brought at the end of the festival. This is also because of the “leave no trace” rule. After you burn it, nobody has to worry about you leaving your art work in the middle of the desert.

Burning Baby

I love this picture so much! I think there is more depth and meaning to this. The sculptures of the adults are upset. You can tell because they are standing back to back with their heads down. The statues of the babies, however, want to be friends. They are trying to hold hands, but the adult sculptures are blocking them. I think it’s showing the purity of childhood and that we all still have that inside.

Everyone should already know that plants tend to die in the desert! This is why you should stop bringing plants to Burning Man! Event organizers have even made a rule reminding everyone not to plant any roses in the desert because they will not survive!
