Although this may seem like an unlikely duo, Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg’s friendship is one of the greatest known in the culinary world. I wouldn’t have believed that they would end up having any show together, let alone a cooking show. But the 78-year-old (as of 2020) and self-proclaimed pimp have joined forces and are a hilariously entertaining duo that just keeps getting more popular. I could have definitely believed that it’s just a set up for publicity, but you will see that their friendship is the real deal.
Stewart and Snoop Dogg may seem like two completely different people, but they happen to have a lot in common. No, not marijuana, cooking. There’s no need to judge a book by its cover, according to Snoop. Stewart has always been an amazing cook, and Snoop Dogg has always been consuming munchies. I don’t think that there is a cooking duo out there better than them.
When did Martha turn into America’s coolest grandma who hangs out with rappers and jokes about ‘greens’ and prison? Let’s get into their story.
They Met on The Martha Stewart Show
Everything started back in 2008 on The Martha Stewart Show, where Snoop Dogg made a guest appearance. He mentioned that he had seen Diddy as well as other hip-hop icons having fun with Martha and taught her how to rap, and he was also interested in having a memorable time on the show.
This was the start of seeing the wholesome relationship between Stewart and Snoop, and you can’t deny that they bonded over something that brings people together all over the world; food. A lot of people have their opinions on this friendship, but I’m going to share one that I wholeheartedly agree with. “Snoop and Martha Stewart are quite possibly the best unlikely duo in the history of the universe. If only the rest of the human race could take a hint.”
The First Meeting
During Snoop Dogg’s first time on The Martha Stewart Show, he taught Martha some of his unique vocabulary that she just had fun with. While this was going on, she showed him how to make her homemade mashed potatoes. Not only were they cooking and joking together on her show, but they genuinely had a good time.
Snoop Dogg adds a touch of personality to his potatoes by adding in a drop of cognac. In an interview, Martha asked, “What an odd couple we were.” Snoop explained, “Like Martha kind of pioneered this as far as letting rappers become a part of daytime television because we were not actually accepted.” Martha admitted, “Yeah, we were odd. But we fit right in just, like, cooking with Martha just seemed like the right space to be in.”
Snoop Dogg Returns for Brownies
After having so much fun the first time around with their homemade mashed potatoes, Snoop Dogg was invited back for Martha’s Christmas special. The two made some special ‘green’ brownies, but not the kind you’re hoping for. These were just green brownies for Christmas, but that didn’t stop from Martha Stewart joking about how they were putting the green in their brownies when she was putting on the green sprinkles.
The whole segment was fun, the two even joked about how Stewart was lucky that Snoop worked at McDonald’s before, so it really helps him in stirring the brownies. I would love to be a fly on the wall when these guys hang out.
The ‘Ask Me Anything’ Question
After the segments where they make mashed potatoes together and then brownies, Martha Stewart went to Reddit with the ‘Ask Me Anything’ post. There were a few things she revealed, like that she has never purchased a cookie in her life. She mentioned in there that she really missed Snoop Dogg since they recorded the brownies segment, and she really wished that they were closer.
Stewart said, “Where’s Snoop? I have brownies for you!” She even invited him to join the discussion and answer some questions, but he didn’t end up coming. Martha has made ‘special’ brownies for Snoop before. That’s a true friend, someone who will make you special brownies and then go on to cook a bunch of munchies for you.
Reuniting at Bieber’s Roast
Both Martha and Snoop pulled out their best jokes for Justin Bieber’s roast. I laughed throughout the whole thing, but when Martha got up there to roast Bieber, Snoop was on the floor laughing for the duration of the whole thing. She sat next to Snoop the whole time, which was about four hours. After sitting next to him for so long, Martha said she got ‘second-hand high’ and was just enjoying herself.
Snoop agreed this helped relax her, and the jokes were just flowing. I think she’s just that funny. After connecting over comedy, they decided they needed to collaborate and exchanged information. Snoop talks about this meeting and how they just realized they have a lot of fun together, and “Something was in the air.” This was the real start of a crazy friendship.
Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party
The ‘King of Kush’ and ‘Queen of Cuisine’ got together and created their own cooking show called Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party. Just to be clear, this is what they referred to themselves as when they put out trailers for the shows first episode. This is basically a competitive show where celebrities will take part in a themed cooking challenge, and then the guest judges will judge their final meals.
Not many can say that they have a 100 rating on Rotten Tomatoes (from their first season). Their third season just finished recently, and I’m sure the ratings will be up there too. Remy Ma summed it up in an interview once in a way that I couldn’t agree more with, “Snoop Dogg has the munchies — who else better to make your best friend than Martha Stewart?”
Martha Is A Double G, According to Snoop
Snoop Dogg did an interview with Nardwuar at SXSW in 2017, and Nardwuar asked him if Martha Stewart is a G. Snoop straight away said, “she’s a double G – She’s a grandmother and a good lady.” What a compliment coming from Snoop Dogg. The compliments go both ways, and Martha only has the best things to say about him.
They make a good team and really go all out for things. She shakes her own drinks with this copper ice ball maker, which they call Martha’s ‘kitchen bling,’ and they even taste $500 macarons together. I wouldn’t mind a day in the life of either of them.

They Have Some Pretty Pimped Out Cookware
Martha Stewart really keeps up with her cookware. When they put their kitchen together, one half is styled for Martha, and the other half is styled for Snoop. Her side is filled with everything copper. The countertops are clean and grey, but she said, ‘This year is all about copper.’ And her side really shows that. Now, Snoop says that he loves how she went all out, but they just have so much in common.
His side is filled with 24k gold cooking utensils everywhere, along with some alligator salt and pepper shakers. I absolutely need his gold measuring cups, along with almost every other gold thing on his countertop. He also has different herbs lining the shelves and other ‘herbs’ on a gold and glass alcohol cart.
The Legendary Cook-Off
My favorite episode was the first one. This cook-off was legendary with Wiz Khalifa there to help out Martha and Seth Rogan to team up with Snoop. The guest judge was Ice Cube, which really brought the whole thing together. This is where you learn how much Martha loves her meat. Wiz Khalifa got to live the dream and make breaded fried chicken.
Martha’s chicken had a lot of steps before it even gets to the frying pan. She soaks it in brine for two days and then soaks it in buttermilk for a few hours. Snoop and Rogan went all out with their fried wings and crumbled BBQ chips all them. That sounds pretty delicious, and even though there was a pretty clear winner (Martha and Wiz Khalifa), it came out a tie.
Snoop Does What Martha Says
In their potluck show, Martha is really the one who is in her element. She has the experience and loves cooking. They did an interview about their time on the show together, and she mentions, “I can get a little bossy, but I try to be a good teacher.” Snoop is well aware of who runs the show here, and he even said, “Do what Martha says, that’s the rule in the kitchen.”
Everyone has the place they can say that they are most comfortable in. Snoop shared, “We like to get caught like that. If I was in the studio, this is what I do in the studio, I direct, and I lead, and this is her studio, so I expect her to take the lead and show me where I need to be.” You can watch any episode and see how much he respects her opinion in the kitchen.
They Hang Out All the Time Without Cameras
Even after a few minutes of an interview together, you can see that these two have a real friendship, and it’s not just something put on for the cameras. You can feel that energy through the screen. They spend a lot of time together on camera but also a lot of time just hanging out. She invited Snoop and his family to her Bedford, NY, home back in 2018.
They had a meal made for them for Cinco de Mayo (not really themed for it, but for that day) with fried chicken, spinach quiche, turkey meatloaf, a lot of fresh fruit, and more. She posted a bit on her Instagram but also put photos up from the whole day-venture together, from the atmosphere to each dish plated.
Martha Gets Her Meat Drunk
We all know that Martha Stewart likes her meat. From the episode with her turkey’s in an open cage next to the stage to her episode cooking a whole pig. They get to talk a lot during dinner, and even throughout the episode. During their first cooking challenge, Martha ended up talking about how she gives her chickens vodka before she slaughters them to get them prepared.
Later in the first season, you can see her bringing out fresh lobsters to make during an episode with Rick Ross. I have to say that she and Rick Ross really had me enjoying that episode. But instead of filling up a pot of water to boil the lobsters in, she fills it up with vodka and puts the lobsters in before turning it on. That seems pretty reasonable; if you’re going to cook them like that, you might as well get them drunk first.
Re-Enacting the Famous Scene from Ghost
In 2017, Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg came out with a promo for their second season of Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party, which just again shows how good their sense of humor is. They re-enacted the famous ‘pottery scene’ from the movie Ghost. But instead of molding clay together, the two are icing a two-tiered chocolate cake.
It starts off with a record playing, and you see Stewart unbuttoning the top of her white button-down shirt. Snoop sits behind her, intertwining fingers, and helps her ice the cake in a spoof of the intimate scene. This was not only the first time that they created a spoof of a famous movie scene. Two years later, they do it again for the next season of their show.
Re-Enacting A Scene from Titanic
For the third season of their show, they chose to promote it with a scene from the iconic Titanic. They recreated the scene with Jack and Rose on the tip of the ship, where he is showing her the view. This was when she spreads her arms and says, “I’m flying, Jack.” Now take them and switch them out with Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart.
This was the teaser for season 3 of Martha and Snoops show. It starts out with Martha in the kitchen listening to ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion, and then she and Snoop snuggle up in a nautical-themed kitchen. Of course, there is a sunset here as well. The only thing is, Snoop is playing Rose. He opens his eyes and says, “I’m frying! Martha, I’m frying!”
They Love A Good Game
I wouldn’t want to be up against them at the next couples game night. These two just understand each other in a way that only the best of friends do. Almost every episode of potluck dinner ends with a bit of competitive fun. During one episode with Wendy Williams and Post Malone, they play two truths and a lie, and Martha was teasing him for giving one of the three options, “I wrote my only good song two days before it was recorded.”
It was almost like we were back watching her roast Justin Bieber. Martha and Snoop were also on the $100,000 Pyramid together. She quizzed him on different extravagant household items. This is what true friendship looks like, always knowing what the other person really means.
Snoop Painted Martha a Painting
This next one was tweeted by Martha Stewart in September 2016 and wrote, “This is an original Snoop Dogg painting, and Snoop gave it to me as a gift! Very nice, don’t you think?” Well, it is just plain adorable. We didn’t know that Snoop had a hidden talent, but after watching him cook, I’m not so surprised. But this is the type of charming friendship that they have together.
Somewhere in Martha’s Bedford mansion is this special piece of art that Snoop painted himself, with her in mind. I bet this painting will be worth some money one day. Martha Enjoys Snoop’s Cooking
Martha Stewart is the Queen of the kitchen, whether it is for a single meal or a whole catering experience. The potluck dinner party is filled with different types of munchies, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t tasty. She told the LA Times, “We publish good, tested recipes. That’s important to me.” They’ve gotten to the point where she loves trying the new ideas and recipes that Snoop brings in.
The friendship has come far enough that she swears by his brownie recipe. That’s funny since they made her brownies the second time he was on her show. But after he hooked her on that recipe, he brought in a new dish for their Christmas episode. He cooked his mother’s dish, a Cornish hen stuffed with dressing. Stewart admitted she doesn’t usually like this, but it was one of the best dishes on the whole show.
She Doesn’t Enter His Trailer
Snoop likes to keep his ‘chill time’ inside of his trailer. He had what to say about their boundaries at work, “We only smoked the meat! On the set, I’m a businessman.” Martha Stewart admitted that she had tried edibles before, she tries to stay clear of his trailer to avoid another situation like Bieber’s roast.
Although, it is what brought her and Snoop together in the first place, so there couldn’t be much harm in it. She said, “I made a pact early on doing this show that I would never enter Snoop’s domain, his trailer.” She might not go in there, but that doesn’t mean she is judging. She is even considering getting into this business-wise as it really goes well with her love for cooking.
From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg’s Kitchen
This is exactly what it sounds like; Snoop Dogg put out his own cookbook. We’ve seen Snoop do a lot of things since the ‘90s, but none of us ever would have thought this would be what he put out in 2018. I’m sure it’s also a mixture of Stewart’s skills rubbing off on him over time, but this cookbook is actually very impressive. Especially since he sprinkled BBQ chips all over his fried chicken before cooking it on the first episode.
It features 50 of his favorite recipes with only kitchen spices. No sauces from jars, nothing like that. This really takes things to the next level. Stewart says that he’s so excited about his skills in the kitchen that he was even thinking about coming out with his own line of spices. I would definitely try those out.
Martha Is an Inspiration to Snoop
We’ve seen Snoop Dogg throughout the years. He started out as Snoop Doggy Dogg and went through a lot of different names like Tha Doggfather, Big Snoop Dogg, Snoop Lion, Snoopzilla, Uncle Snoop, and Coach Snoop before becoming Snoop Dogg the Chef. Martha and Snoop have really bonded over their show. You see that Martha always makes things that people who stay at home all day can do (just because of the close proximity to the kitchen).
Her recipes are very small and simple tasks that are stretched out over days, so it just seems like it’s a lot of work. Snoop likes recipes that you take more pre-made foods and cook them. Martha inspired Snoop to put out his cookbook using no pre-made sauces, just spice mixtures. I would love to try out this cookbook.
Martha Called Snoop Her Freedom
Martha Stewart is no longer that square TV personality we knew from her first show. She is very proud of the influence that Snoop Dogg has had on her lifestyle since they’ve become friends and expanded on that in an interview with People magazine. Them working together is like having your sidekick best friend with you all the time. It loosens you up a lot.
Martha commented on this saying, “that’s why all the comedians have sidekicks and bands because it loosens them up and lets them be freer. Snoop is my freedom.” Snoop brings on different hip hop friends that bring some extra fun to the party. Sometimes Martha doesn’t know who they are before, but that doesn’t stop her from having a good time, every time. This is just an iconic pairing that will always be talked about.
Martha’s Inner Circle Keeps Growing
This pairing really brought together people who wouldn’t always get the opportunity to meet. It’s like when Ed O’Neill took a selfie with a fan in the airport and had to have his manager explain that it’s popular because that was Britney Spears; two different styles within Hollywood that just never connected before.
This collaboration takes it to another level, with Martha growing her inner circle and becoming friends with everyone. From people in the music industry to comedians who wouldn’t usually go on a home cooking show, I’d say that they are connecting Hollywood in a way that even Ellen DeGeneres couldn’t. Their collaboration has touched a whole new demographic for both of these celebrities, and they are bridging the gap in the industry.
Martha Knows What He Will and Won’t Eat
Like most friendships, they learn a lot about each other. Martha knows that there are things Snoop won’t touch with a ten-foot pole. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, she tells them, “He has very defined tastes.” She goes on to mention that he doesn’t eat oysters as they are “too slimy.” He also won’t touch any type of seafood, including lobster and shrimp.
I can relate to that one. He will eat some lobster, though, if it isn’t inside of the shell. Even with these restrictions, he’s pretty daring and will try just about anything. He actually tried out Martha’s cow tongue tacos once, and even though they were made by the best, she said that he “absolutely did not like the tongue.” At least he tried.
They Both Enjoy Indulging
We all know that Snoop Dogg likes to indulge and can indulge in his luxurious lifestyle. He walks the walk and talks the talk. This is just another thing that they have in common. Martha also happens to be very rich and enjoys the finer things in life. I mean, we always see her wearing nice things, and she is put together, but this extends into her culinary career.
You can see her take a tour of the split personality kitchen, as they call it, before the first episode airs, and she shows off all of her copper cookware. Snoop also puts a bit of it out in his kitchen with the 24K measuring cups. But Martha really went all out when she buys caviar from a vending machine that only accepts $100 bills. That caviar cost $250, and you can even see how shocked Snoop was.
Martha’s Street Cred
If you watch their show, you know that Martha has real street cred now. Hell, if you watch the news, you can see she has street cred. There’s a meme going around with a photo of the two of them saying only one of them is a convicted felon. While we all love the idea behind it, they have both spent time in jail. Since getting out, Martha has told news sources that her time behind bars has helped bridge the gap.
She actually said, “because people knew how crazy and unfair…all of that was. And in Snoop’s world, it gave me the street cred I was lacking.” Something that I’m still not sure is true she mentioned in the first episode of the series during a game of two lies and a truth. She was once electrocuted and got struck by lightning three times. She joked about it, saying, “Going to jail doesn’t make you stronger. Only lightening makes you stronger.” Statistically, you have a higher chance of being accused of a crime you didn’t commit than getting struck by lightning once. How ironic?
The Instigator (Martha)
Snoop Dogg has his obvious recreational lifestyle choices, and I highly approve. Martha Stewart has her own things. Snoop went through different phases in life, but one thing remained the same, he isn’t a drinker. Martha, on the other hand, really enjoys mixing up strong beverages on every occasion possible. This is her part of the starch, vegetable, and protein of a well-balanced meal.
Snoop did an interview with US Weekly and said, “I don’t drink, right? But Martha told people on the show we’re going to have a drink before we do everything.” Okay, so if Martha pours it for him, he will drink it. Snoop still sticks with his word and claims he won’t drink unless it’s with Martha. I’ve definitely seen him take one sip and put down a drink she made him on several occasions.
Their Munchie-Friendly Menu
Their menu usually includes something more of a munchie than a full meal. Sometimes there will be a meal in a pot, like a clam chowder Martha threw together once, but usually its something random. I mean, it is called potluck dinner, and Snoop is one of the hosts, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise. They had tacos, pizza, and even fried chicken. They also will randomly try other things. Once Snoop did a small ad for Golden Oreos.
They also did a segment where they tried random munchies that the audience on twitter suggested. They all tried chips with honey, and Martha even loved the old cake in milk, but Snoop couldn’t bring himself to try the day-old cold pizza fried in an omelet. I really can’t blame him here, and I’m still not so sure how Martha was able to try that. Her exact words were “that could have been avoided.”
They Are Banned from the UK
Here is just another thing that these friends have in common. When Martha was planning a trip to Britain for a business trip in 2008, they found out that she would have been refused entry, so they had to cancel. The Immigration Border Agency in the UK obviously backed their decision and commented that they would continue to refuse entry to the UK when it comes to anyone guilty of “serious offenses abroad.”
Not everyone can say they aren’t allowed in another country, but Snoop Dogg is right alongside her and is also banned from the UK. This was supposedly after some violent behavior at the Heathrow Airport in 2006. Seth Rogan also is banned from a certain country and brought it up during his appearance on their show while talking about favorite foods. But he is banned from North Korea for his movie The Interview.
They Reminisce A Lot on Their Friendship
Here is some real proof that they are good friends; the digital world. Social media shows us how celebrities are like us, always posting throwbacks of each other. Back in 2013, Snoop posted on his Twitter reminding his fans that he and Martha go back to his brownie making days. He posted a photograph of the two of them baking during his second appearance on the show and added “pimp hat” and some gangster glasses.
He wrote, “ayo @marthastewart watchu bakn!! #snoopify.” These two just get along so well that it makes us ask how did the friendship not happen sooner? Even without the extra hat and glasses, you can see how cool Martha is just making green brownies with Snoop. We all could use a friendship like this.
They Hosted Ellen DeGeneres Together
Ellen DeGeneres was out for the day, and Martha and Snoop came to her rescue and hosted an episode of the talk show. They started out with some cooking jokes and went right into a game about marijuana. I watch this show all the time, and guest hosting is hard to do, even when you have a partner there. But Martha and Snoop really keep the banter going.
Twitch’s DJ table has been a “missing thing” this season, and Martha and Snoop gave him cooking set up. Of course, they promoted their show on it a bit. It seems like Martha was the only one who noticed that she was helping host another person’s daytime TV show. But that’s how far she’s come since her first show.
The ‘Music Video’
The Ellen DeGeneres show is known for making spoof video clips as a joke, and Martha and Snoop’s episode was no different. They presented their ‘newest collab,’ which was a new release of the video for Snoop’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ with Martha twerking everywhere with a rolling pin and shooting a money gun all over the place.
‘She’ wore skinny jeans, pumps, and a big chain necklace. They shot the video in black and white and put Martha’s face on a dancer. Now, we all know this was for jokes, but who else is thinking that this would have been a really cool new version of the song.
The Crazy Stuff You Learn
Watching this show, you get to learn a lot of stuff not only about their friendships but about each one of them. The random talk while cooking is really interesting, and Martha’s games during dinner reveal things about the two of them that you would never believe. I believe it was the third episode where instead of playing two lies and truth, Martha asked everyone to bring something from home with a story.
She ended up bringing a toilet paper holder for the bathroom, along with a great story. Barbara Streisand was a guest at her house once, and she wasn’t a fan of having to turn a bit to get toilet paper when she was in the bathroom. After she left, she sent Martha a funny gift of a toilet paper holder that wasn’t attached to the wall.
Their Refrigerators
I felt like the topic of Snoop and Martha’s refrigerators are worth bringing up separate from their kitchen bling. This kitchen bling takes it to the next level, and I don’t know how I don’t have one of them yet. When you open Martha’s fridge, you hear angelic classical music ring throughout the studio. When you open Snoop’s fridge, you get some fun rap.
This is one of my favorite things from their entire kitchen. I would even say that I need it more than the 24K gold measuring cups. Mine would just have a few changes, like rose gold instead of gold, and it would play Dem Jeans by Chingy and have a bit of fun with nostalgia.
Putting the Pot in Potluck
The pilot episode was called ‘Putting the Pot in Potluck.” They wanted to make sure it was known to their target audience that this would be their underlying topic. The first cocktail of the show was made by Snoop instead of Martha, and he called it ‘The Laid Back.’ The audience had a lot of fun with it and was shouting, “With my mind on my money and my money on my mind.”
Even Seth Rogan’s first joke was coming out with a fire extinguisher as a gift mentioning it was because “A lot of us smoke.” Even Wiz Khalifa brings his line into the second-first gift, locking it down as a memorable moment with a large bag of “Khalifa Kush.”
The DJ
Every comedian who has their own show has their own sidekick. This is the person who is basically there to help the jokes go smoothly. Martha and Snoop have their own sidekick also, their DJ. I’m not the biggest fan of him, but that’s only because Martha and Snoop have such a good comedic connection that they are each other’s sidekicks.
Some people love him, and some just aren’t a fan, but we could say that about anyone who isn’t Martha, Snoop, or Ellen DeGeneres. He really is a funny commentator, though, and his position went more from the DJ to hosting the different games that they play to break the ice.

Award Nominations
Now, the show didn’t win any of these, but they were nominated for four different awards. Three of them came from 2017; first, they were nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program. Then they were nominated for a Gol Derby Award for Reality Host and then an MTV Movie + TV Award for Best Duo.
The more recent nomination was in 2018 at the NAACP for the Outstanding Reality Program. In my mind, the show deserved a lot more than four nominations with no wins, but it’s still nice to say that you were nominated for an Emmy Award, and both Martha and Snoop can say that. Well, I guess Martha could say that before as she did win a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Service Show Host in 1997.
